Andy Mireles was born on April 3, 1950 in Lockhart, Texas. He earned his J.D. with Honors, and B.A. with Honors at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
He married Margaret Guzman of Corpus Christi, Texas, and they had two sons, Jonathan and Matthew Mireles.
Judge Andy Mireles had a life-long dedication to public service which included work in all areas of civil and family law, and a special commitment to the juvenile programs of Bexar County. He was a tireless advocate for children and a champion of juvenile justice.
Mireles created Bexar County’s juvenile justice system and was the driving force behind the development of the county’s child abuse and neglect court.
Judge Mireles served on the 73rd District Court for more than 20 years, where he was widely respected for his high ethical standards.
Judge Andy Mireles passed away in December 2009.
The Andy Mireles Charitable Foundation founded by Margaret, Jonathan and Matthew Mireles is a private, family foundation in Bexar County, Texas opened to honor the life and work of the late Judge Andy Mireles. It seeks to improve the Bexar County community by contributing to nonprofit organizations in the fields of education, health and social services and provide scholarships to the youth of Bexar County, so that they may attain their educational goals.

The Foundation AT A GLANCE
Every year, deserving students from Bexar County are chosen to become Mireles Scholars. Uniquely, the AMCF provides scholarships in conjunction with a mentoring program comprised of community leaders, business owners, and local professionals from Bexar County. This combination of financial assistance and career guidance provides Mireles Scholars ample opportunities to achieve success.
- Scholarships and mentorships are awarded to young leaders pursuing many different types of degrees and majors.
- The AMCF has also donated to organizations including Youths Transitioning Into Adulthood, Joven, Trinity Upward Bound, The Children’s Shelter, Communities in Schools, Bexar County Partners for Youth, and many more.
- Since 2014 more than 400 businesses and individuals have donated to the AMCF.
